Art for the Love of Music

When we think of our favorite California bluegrass personalities, Tom Rozum is among the cream of the crop from the last 50 years. He's been playing mandolin and singing with Laurie Lewis since 1986, and appears on most of her recordings—two of which were nominated for Grammys.

Fans of Tom’s live performances with any of the many bands he’s played with throughout his career also love his great sense of humor, and sharp wit. That Tom is also an accomplished graphic artist and designer is maybe one of the best-kept secrets in bluegrass. Since he first started performing 50 years ago, he has been encouraged to use his drawing skills to promote the band he played in. As with his mandolin playing, he's self-taught, basically learning on the job.

Tom’s art spans the digital and the physical, and includes hand-drawn lettering, painting, drawing, digital vector art, and—thanks to a fake ad in the CD liner notes of Jubilee—a series of scratchboard illustrations, scanned and digitally colored to create strikingly beautiful final pieces.
